Practices for Heart
Loving-Kindness Meditation
A classic heart-opening practice that cultivates compassion for yourself and others.
Sit comfortably. Place both hands on your chest.
Breathe slowly and feel the warmth of your hands.
Silently repeat: "May I be safe. May I be well. May I be loved."
Now think of someone you love. Extend the same wish to them.
Expand to someone neutral. Then to all beings.
End by returning the wish to yourself.
Forgiveness Letter
A private writing practice to begin releasing stored hurt — not to excuse, but to free yourself.
Think of someone (including yourself) toward whom you carry tension or hurt.
Write a letter you will never send.
Begin: "I haven't said this, but what I felt was..."
Let it out honestly. Don't filter.
At the end, write: "I choose to release this for my own peace."
You may tear up or burn the letter if that feels right.
Heart-Centered Breathing
A simple breath practice that draws attention into the heart space, calming emotional reactivity and opening compassion.
Place both hands over the center of your chest.
Close your eyes and feel the warmth of your palms.
Inhale slowly for 5 counts, imagining the breath flowing directly into your heart.
Exhale for 5 counts, letting go of any tightness in the chest.
With each breath, imagine your heart softening — like a fist slowly opening.
Continue for 8–10 rounds. Notice the shift in your emotional temperature.
Chest-Opening Stretch Sequence
A series of gentle stretches that open the chest and shoulders, releasing stored grief and inviting expansiveness.
Stand tall. Interlace your fingers behind your back.
Lift your hands gently while opening your chest. Hold for 5 breaths.
Release. Bring your arms wide to each side in a T-shape. Rotate palms up.
Take 3 deep breaths, feeling your ribs expand in every direction.
Cross your arms over your chest in a self-hug. Hold gently for 30 seconds.
Release, shake out your arms, and notice how your chest and heart space feel.
Gratitude Connection
A practice of expressing specific, heartfelt gratitude to someone in your life — not generically, but with real detail.
Choose one person who has made a difference in your life recently.
Write or mentally compose a message naming exactly what they did and how it affected you.
Be specific: "When you called me last Thursday just to check in, I felt seen."
If comfortable, send the message via text, voice note, or in person.
If not, simply hold the gratitude in your heart for 2 minutes, directing warmth toward them.
Notice how expressing gratitude shifts something in your own chest.
